Prince Philip to advance royal commitments – BBC News

The Duke of Edinburgh will retire from royal duties this autumn, Buckingham Palace has announced. The decision was made by Prince Philip himself and is backed by the queen, the palace spokesman said. The Duke, who will turn 96 next month, will attend pre-arranged and pre-August engagements but will not accept any new invitations. The Queen “will continue to make a full program of official engagements,” the palace said.
