Authorities were monitoring seismic activity on Friday after receiving reports of shaking – and loud noise – in parts of Massachusetts.

Residents in southeast Massachusetts began reporting activity shortly before 11 a.m. Friday.

However, as of noon, the US Geological Survey had not confirmed an earthquake.

We’ve heard reports of people feeling vibration or hearing a “boom” noise in parts of the southeast MA this morning. Pamela Gardner, a meteorologist at NBC 10 in Boston, said military activity off the southern coast, meteor explosion or space debris in the atmosphere could also be possible explanations.
