Los Angeles was rocked by a series of earthquakes, but no damage or injuries were reported – deadline

Southern California residents were awakened by a pair of earthquakes before dawn, the largest of which was 4.0 on the Richter scale.

There were no initial reports of damage or injuries resulting from the earthquakes that struck between four in the morning and five in the morning local time.

Seismologist Lucy Jones tweeted that the largest earthquake, under Lenox, California (near Englewood) “would have been felt by most people awake in Los Angeles.” She added that it was “very deep” at a depth of about 20 kilometers under the surface of the earth. A close “harbing jolt” struck 3.3 on the Richter scale.

The two major earthquakes were followed by several smaller earthquakes in the area around England and Lenox, near LAX and about 10 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles.

Last Thursday, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake jolted the city with Huntington Park as its epicenter.

The entertainment industry had just closed the final chapter in preparation for the Oscars with the SAG Awards a few hours before minor natural disasters happened. Twitter is buzzing with tweets from those who have woken up – or been barred from getting them.

Local media also painted a picture. Amber Lee, a meteorologist at KCBS, pauses during her weather report to notice a “jolt,” and asks on air, “Did you feel it?” DeMarco Morgan commentator looked at the ceiling anxiously. “That was definitely an earthquake,” he said. “She was not dreaming.”

TV writer Katie Delaney quarreled over the timing of the earthquake. “Why do earthquakes persist in such dark hours?” She tweeted. “Where is the logical earthquake at two in the afternoon?”
