A 3.3-magnitude earthquake strikes Assam Suntpur, the seventh earthquake in a day

Assam: The National Center of Seismology said an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale struck Suntpur in Assam at 4:17 pm today. There were no reports of damages or losses so far. It was the eighth earthquake after a larger magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit Suntpur, Assam, on April 28. According to the NCS, the region is very seismically active as it lies in the highest seismic hazard zone V associated with collision tectonics as the Indian plate descends under the Eurasian plate. Earlier in the day, an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale jolted Suntbor. According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at 13:04 pm. “A magnitude of 3.6 earthquake, occurred on April 29-2021, 13:04:20 India time, latitude: 26.61, length: 92.33, depth: 27 km, location: 46 km west of Tizpur, Assam, India”, the NCS tweeted.

Before that, earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.6, 2.9, 4.6, 2.7, 2.3 and 2.7 on the Richter Suntebor scale hit 12.24am, 1.10am, 1.20am, 1.41am, 1.52am and 2.38am, respectively.
