Vote: The Best San Jose Earthquakes Shirt, 2000-05

We continue the Jersey Week with the most recent entry into our Jersey Arch course, looking at the San Jose Earthquake shirts between name change and separator.

After the bold designs of the San Jose Clash years, a return to Earthquakes was fairly good. However, there is consistency and color matching so it is something.

Now, let’s wander around the shirt between 2000 and 2005, and in the end you will vote for the best one of this era.

2000-02

I was a big fan of the Clash collars design, but that disappeared when the Quakes brand returned. The basics of the turn of the millennium look like a sweater jacket, a look recognized by the MLS of the era but perhaps not iconic.

2000-03

On the bright side, the secondary blouses were white, but the suspender belts gave some continuity with the look of a sweater jacket in the basic jerseys. It should be noted that these two designs were what the earthquakes wore in the season when they won the first MLS Cup, and for the secondary shirts, for the second time as well.

2003-04

In terms of design, these basic blouses, with a black diagonal plaque, are somewhat boring, but this is perhaps the most “classic” of the era of Quakes shirts, and perhaps the first one you can think of.

2004

I love this secondary, white and blue reflection of the base, with contrast panels looking a little better.

2005

In 2005 Adidas became the manufacturer of the Quakes group, and this design is very similar to the previous Nike design. More importantly, the blue is a different color, but the color blocking is very similar to the old one, with some swoosh (not a Nike type, though).

I wouldn’t lie, this simple plain white with the only design feature being the three lines on the shoulders in team colors looks like what adidas has been putting in the past few years for most teams. On this basis I think this is the most modern look of the piece.
