With simulations of a magnitude 8.1 earthquake on Wednesday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m., the first major simulation of this year will take place in Puerto Vallarta.

The State Unit of Civil Protection and Jalisco Firefighters (UEPCyBJ) invites the public, private and social sectors to participate in this event and register through macrosimulacrojaliscouepcb.com.mx.

An annual exercise allows first responders to practice responses in the event of a natural disaster, and for the private sector and families to have plans in place in case of an emergency,

On September 19, 1985, a strong earthquake killed many people and caused multiple damage in several states of the country, especially Mexico City.

These earthquakes have demonstrated the need for a management tool with national coverage, that would allow the integration and coordination of the response of all social sectors in the event of natural disasters.

In 2017, a major earthquake happened again in Mexico, again on 19 September, putting the capacity of the community and authorities’ response to the test.

That is why the Jalisco government through the Governmental Unit for Civil Protection and Firefighters, with the intent that the community is better prepared for this kind of phenomenon, will implement the first large evacuation simulation 2021 on May 19.

The exercises are held every year on September 19, however, they were canceled last year due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

All sectors of Jalisco community are participating in this exercise, from government agencies, educational institutions, companies and private initiatives, as well as civil society.
