For a hundred years, a small island in the Dnieper River gave a sanctuary to a legendary group of warriors – the Cossacks of Zaporozhia in Ukraine. The men moved to Khortytsia in the 15th century in search of freedom and democracy, according to Andriy Kravets, a BBC service report in Ukraine.
