A former San Jose Earthquakes Stadium employee has been sentenced to prison for breaking into the online franchise system

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday that the man who pleaded guilty to breaching the San Jose Earthquakes’ online franchise management system on the team’s opening day last year, was sentenced to 20 months in prison and paid $ 268,733 for lost revenue and damages.

Salvatore La Rosa, 41, pleaded guilty February 17 to federal court in San Jose on one count of intentional damage to a protected computer. On Wednesday, he was ordered to pay a $ 5,000 fine in addition to compensation.

A US local judge also sentenced La Rosa to three years in prison for supervised release.

La Rosa was charged in October of last year with accessing the stadium’s MLM account online without permission during the first home game of the 2020 NFL season.

Officials said La Rosa was a former employee of Spectra Food Services and Hospitality, which provides services to the stadium, and worked at the stadium as director of operations and premium services until he was fired in January 2020.

Officials said La Rosa admitted to logging into the Earthquakes stadium system from his home and deleting the list of perks and payment options. Authorities said the deletion caused tablets at points of sale to stop working on opening day and credit cards could not be accepted.

Employees were forced to write orders manually and use calculators to complete cash transactions, which led to delays that resulted in lost sales. Officials said Spectra has also provided free food and drinks to some club members due to its inability to process credit card transactions.

According to the case files, employees also experienced verbal abuse from frustrated and angry clients.

In an effort to restore customer confidence, Spectra and San Jose Earthquakes offered a 50% discount on all franchises on March 7, 2020, officials said.

In all, Spectra lost a total of $ 268,733 in damages, lost revenue, franchise deductions made during the March 7 match, employee time and labor costs to repair data damage, the US Attorney’s Office said.

No Rosa outside the custody of Sindh. Officials said he would begin serving his sentence on July 28.
