A 4.3 magnitude earthquake strikes Uttarakhand, but no casualties India News

New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit Uttarakhand on Monday (24 May 2021) with earthquakes being felt in various areas including Chamuli, Buri, Garhwal and Dehradun.

The National Seismology Center reviewed the earthquake and said it occurred at 12:31 am, 44 kilometers northwest of Joshimath in the Shamuli District.

The epicenter was at a depth of 22 km, at 30.94 (latitude) – 79.44 (longitude). According to the latest information, no casualties were reported.

Recently, due to the after-effects of Typhoon Taukta, torrential rains over two consecutive days in Chamuli caused landslides that led to the closure of the Badrinath Expressway from three points.

Two explosions of glaciers have also been reported, one of which is near Badrinath. However, there were no casualties so far.
