Two earthquakes hit Surigao del Norte

Two earthquakes struck Surigao del Norte on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The first earthquake occurred at 10:59 AM and measured 4.9 on the Richter scale. It was first reported to have a magnitude of 5.2°.

PHIVOLCS said the epicenter was located at 10.12N and 126.17E – 015 kmN and 42°E from Burgos, Surigao del Norte.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and was at a depth of nine kilometers.

PHIVOLCS said no damage and aftershocks are expected.

The second earthquake occurred at 11:20 AM and had a magnitude of 5.8.

It was at a depth of 10 km and the epicenter was at 10.39N, 126.61E – 072 kmN 55°E from Burgos, Surigao del Norte.

The third intensity was felt at Daba and General Luna at Surigao del Norte.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin as well.

PHIVOLCS said no damage and aftershocks are expected after the second earthquake.

Meanwhile, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Burgos, Surigao del Norte at 11:40 a.m.

The epicenter was located at 10.15°N and 126.18°E – 019 kmN 38°E from Burgos.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and was at a depth of 12 km.
