On Saturday, June 7, 1692, an earthquake struck Port Royal, Jamaica. More specifically, it appears to have occurred around 11:43 a.m., according to a discontinued pocket watch that was found underwater during an archaeological investigation in 1959.
Port Royal was one of the most famous and wealthy ports in the West Indies. It was frequented by pirates and pirates who did business in the Caribbean.

Immediately after the main earthquake, two-thirds of the city sank. At that time, 6,500 people lived in the area. There were about 2,000 buildings all built on the sand.

During an earthquake, sand liquefies. This caused the buildings to enter directly into the sea. The sand began to ripple, opening and closing cracks crushing people. As soon as the quack settled, the sand froze and surrounded the people.

The earthquake also caused a tsunami and landslides. The largest landslide was on Judgment Cliff. Displaced the earth about 800 m.
In all, the earthquake and the following events killed about 2,000 people. But an additional 3,000 people died in the following days from injuries and illnesses associated with the earthquake.

Once everything was settled, the city was partially rebuilt. In 1703, Port Royal was badly affected by a fire, and in 1722, a hurricane devastated the area. In the late eighteenth century, Port Royal was mostly unrestricted, and maritime trade proceeded from Kingston.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
