A 2.4-magnitude earthquake strikes southern Jersey. No damage, injuries reported ذكرت

Some residents of southern New Jersey were shocked to learn that a small earthquake hit the area just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The USGS says the 2.4-magnitude earthquake occurred near Tuckerton, Ocean County. Officials say it was about three miles deep and they felt a slight vibration.

Officials said nearly 100 people felt the quake.

“It’s something we’re not used to feeling here, so it’s kind of jarring,” says Alex Taylor of Tuckerton. “I thought someone was doing construction on the road.”

The earthquake is the first in New Jersey in more than six months.

“We were watching [News 12 New Jersey] Actually when it happened we thought it was really loud at first. And I looked at my dad and said, ‘I don’t know if this is thunder. “I think it’s something a little more than that,” says Carol Neumoller of Little Egg Harbor Township.

Little Egg Harbor Police says that once the reports came in, they checked in with the military to see if anything was going on.

“We’ve engaged with the Air Force because sometimes they have a test range, and the bombing range is at Warren Grove, which is part of Little Egg Harbor, and we got involved and decided they don’t have flights today,” Commander Richard Busby Jr.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the middle of Tokerton Bay.

“We haven’t had any ill effects. Really happy with that. No injuries, no damages and nothing substantial,” says Busby.

Busby says residents should always report such situations to the police.

The USGS also has an earthquake reporting website. Just under 200 responses were reported on Wednesday.
