Scientists are puzzled as earthquakes indicate that the moon’s surface is more active than we think

Bombshell’s results demonstrate that the moon is more than just a barren, dusty space rock and its shape may constantly change.

Researchers from Brown University have discovered a system of strange hills scattered near the moon and topped with fresh exposed rocks.

The images are believed to be evidence of shifts in the Earth’s crust over time, just as they do on Earth, causing regular “lunar earthquakes”.

Infrared images of NASA’s lunar exploration probe show bizarre naked points where the banks of gray moon dust appear to have turned unexplained, suggesting an active tectonic process in play.

The researchers say there is also evidence of movement of ancient plaques, possibly from a massive meteorite hit that caused the formation of lava basins.

“There is an assumption that the moon has long since died, but we still find that this is not the case,” said Peter Schultz, professor at the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Brown University.

Schultz is co-author of Research in the Moon, published in the journal Geology.

“From this paper it appears that the moon may still be breaking and cracking – possibly today – and we can see evidence of these hills.”

Most of the lunar surface is covered by travels, a blanket of terrestrial rocks resulting from the constant bombardment of small meteors.

It’s very rare to see the actual moonstone exposed as shown in these photos – if it indicates a sudden shift.

To study the surface, Adomas Valantinas, from the University of Bern, worked with researchers from Brown using data from NASA’s LRO spacecraft to study the bare spots in and around the large dark spots surrounding the side of the moon.

Schultz said: “The exposed blocks on the surface have a relatively short lifespan because the accumulation of consistency occurs constantly.” “So when we see them, there must be some explanation for how and why they were exposed in certain locations.”

Schultz says that some hills topped with open bedrock have been seen before. But these hills were on the edges of the ancient collision basins full of lava and can be explained by continuous slack in response to the weight caused by the filling of the lava.

This new study discovered that the most active hills are associated with a mysterious system of tectonic activity on the side of the near moon, unrelated to basins full of lava and other young malfunctions that intersect the heights.
