Regional food trapped under pressure: more and more people turn to it, donate less than usual.

Thomas agrees: “The retail bailout has decreased dramatically. We used to take seven or eight trucks a day out and get food from the shops, which they unfortunately don’t have to donate at the moment.”

This made Ann Arundel Food Bank try to buy as much food as possible, but Thomas said that prices, in some cases, fluctuate significantly, and that the supplies they have requested take longer to arrive.

The food bank in the capital region is trying to overcome the same obstacles.

“Last week, we bought 45 food trucks to meet this growing demand,” said Mothia. “This is the total number of trucks we will buy in the past year.”

While the food store is in desperate need of new supplies, the food bank that helps fill supplies says that the money or food will help them continue to provide what they can.

Anne Arundel County Food Bank is hoping to establish four new collection points across the region next week to help complete the two placement sites already in operation.

“The needs are still on the rise,” said Thomas, noting an increase in unemployment in recent weeks. I think it will continue until the level of the epidemic drops and we can return to normal conditions.
