DVIDS – News – Nevada International Guard Missions Continue Despite Global Pandemic

By Sgt. Erick Studenicka 1st class
Joint Force Headquarters

CARSON CITY The effects of COVID-19 on the Nevada National Guard did not stay within state limits this spring, as all five Army Guard units on international deployments were affected by the global scourge.
With the deployment of Det. 3, Company B, 2 / 641st in early January, the Nevada Army Guards found themselves with five units deployed simultaneously for the first time since 2011. In total, nearly 210 soldiers are on mission on three continents.

3665th Explosive Ordnance Company: Although the pandemic has slowed the majority of the deployed units, responsibility for the 3665th has in fact widened. Thirty military units support Operation Sentinelles Liberté in the area of responsibility of the Central Command.
Some significant changes have resulted in the transition of our business to take over the entire footprint of the theater’s explosive devices, wrote 1st Sgt. Benjamin Hopper from the CENTCOM unit base. The virus has turned things upside down, but we are maintaining our emergency responses 24/7 now everywhere in the theater.
Hopper wrote 3,665th soldiers are familiar with their new bases and areas of responsibility.
The 3665th left southern Nevada last August and is expected to return home to Henderson this summer if the usual Department of Defense travel resumes.
We can’t wait to come back, wrote Hopper.

G Co., 2 / 238th Aviation: The first 30 soldiers deployed with G Company to central command last fall and who were due to return in April are still overseas after being delayed by travel restrictions.
The 30 or so soldiers from the unit who were to be transferred to CENTCOM to replace the original iteration of the soldiers were mobilized in late April and left for their last pre-deployment training in Texas on May 7.
The virus has invaded most things here, wrote Commander, Nigel Harrison. Everything is closed and we wear a face cover when we are in public.
Harrison said the company is focused on training as well as eliminating college courses and spending a lot of time at the gymnasium while waiting for its return trip to the Silver State. The unit has been carrying out medical evacuation and personnel recovery missions since last fall.

757th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion: the headquarters element of the 757th left for Poland at the beginning of January to support the assured response of the operation of European orders and, apparently, the enormous exercise Defender 2020. This exercise has been reduced, but the battalion still has soldiers supporting missions across Eastern Europe at seven locations.
Although there were no cases among the 757th soldiers, the coronavirus remains a serious concern in Poland, wrote Command Sgt. Major Shauna Reese by email in April. Soldiers can only travel in groups of five or less and all training is limited to five soldiers or less or delivered via the global video system. The basic gymnasium is closed but the exchange of positions remains open.
Reese wrote that the unit finds bright spots during its less than anticipated activity.
Overall, the team has been incredible. Reese wrote. The time we devoted to selecting the team for this deployment paid off. We have won several victories in recent weeks, notably: promotions of soldiers and non-commissioned officers, success in the army physical fitness test and virtual race of 5 and 10 kilometers which have reinvigorated the race and the competitiveness in position.

Bravo Company, 1 / 189th Aviation: around 60 soldiers from Company B are progressing regularly towards the conclusion of their deployment in Kuwait and in the surrounding countries while supporting the Central Command Spartan Shield. The unit operates and maintains six Nevada Army Guards CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
They were dragging themselves, wrote unit commander Zack Taylor-Warren in April. COVID-19 has slightly slowed down the pace of operations, but we are still moving people and goods to the area. We practice social distancing and masks are compulsory.
Taylor-Warren said soldiers can sense the finish line. The unit is expected to be home in early fall.
The end is in sight and we have started planning a new time, wrote Taylor-Warren. We are told that we can expect to return to Nevada on time.
Everyone definitely misses their family and is ready to go home.
The Bravo Company is part of the 34th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade for the duration of its deployment. This brigade supports the 34th Red Bull Infantry.

Det. 3, Company B, 2 / 641st Aviation: The small unit (often called Detachment 45) that maintains and operates the only fixed-wing C-12 Hurons of the Nevada Army Guards left for Africa in January. The coronavirus pandemic has had a considerable impact on the number of flight units.
We are not grounded, but are limited to transportation with GO approval only, wrote Chief Warrant Officer 5 James Anderson. For this reason, each flight has been canceled. Our base is closed to commercial and civil traffic.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history.
