According to the city website, “green” indicates that re-entry is permitted at the owner’s discretion if the building is not in an active area evacuation order. “Yellow” indicates restricted access based on the conditions described on the banner and “red” means that re-entry is not permitted without official authorization.

Over the weekend, city crews were able to stop the flow of flood waters in the Prairie Sumas, sealing penetration into Dike Sumas near road no. 3.

Water levels in the Fraser River had dropped enough for city staff to open the flood gates at the critical Barrowtown pumping station, allowing water to be diverted from the swollen Sumas River away from the badly flooded prairie.

Flooded water from the Nooksack River in Washington state, a key source of the problem, has also stopped flowing across the border into the Sumas River.

Two crews are now working full-time at the South Sumas Dam west of Atkinson Road, Brown said.

The two east-facing lanes will be used for two-way travel with speed restrictions and traffic control measures, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure said Monday.
