VIENNA, Dec 7 (Reuters) – Unvaccinated individuals will continue to remain in isolation even after Austria lifts its wider coronavirus measure to the general public on Sunday, Chancellor Karl Nehammer confirmed on Tuesday, a day after he took over. the task.

The two-week blockade of Austria was intended to counteract an increase in COVID-19 daily infections to record levels, with restaurants, bars, theaters, museums and non-essential stores closed to all but the business taken. Hotels are closed to tourists.

A week before that general blockade, people who were not fully vaccinated against the coronavirus had been placed in isolation, barring them from roughly the same places that are now closed and allowed to leave the house only for the same few reasons as the public now, as e.g. going to work.

“The blockade on the unvaccinated is standing,” Nehammer told a news conference, while confirming that the wider borders would be lifted on Sunday as planned.

However, details still need to be ironed out at a meeting Wednesday between the government and the influential governors of Austria’s nine provinces.

“For all the unvaccinated who suffer from the fact that they are in isolation, there is a clear offer: you can get out of it if you take the opportunity to be vaccinated,” Nehammer said, adding that his goal was to encourage as much as possible to get their first dose of the vaccine.

Asked if the restaurants and hotels would reopen over the weekend, Nehammer said it had already been agreed with the provincial governors and the goal was to reopen businesses as wide as possible.

The question that remained was what security measures and restrictions should be adopted, he added.
