NB Summary of COVID-19: 2 deaths reported Sunday, 126 people hospitalized




New Brunswick reported two more deaths related to COVID-19 on Sunday.

They include a person aged 80 to 89 in the Moncton area and a person aged 70 to 79 in the Bathurst area. The province reported eight deaths from COVID-19 over the weekend and there are now a total of 209 virus-related deaths.

There are 126 people in hospital with COVID-19, the province said.

Of those in the hospital, 101 are 60 and older and three are 19 and under. There are 10 people in intensive care with six in the fans.

There are 74 people with COVID-19 in the hospital who have been hospitalized for other reasons.

A total of 545 tested positive through a PCR test, the provinces said Sunday, and 584 said they had tested positive with the rapid test.

A total of 1,603,873 doses of vaccine were administered in the province, with 91.7 per cent taking a first dose, 83.7 per cent a double dose and 38.2 per cent a booster injection.

Demonstration on the pandemic limitations in Moncton

Over a thousand people came out to protest against restrictions imposed by the government and vaccination mandates in downtown Moncton on Sunday.

Parts of Main Road and Assomption Boulevard are closed for about an hour. Between 1,200 and 1,500 people were there, according to Codiac RCMP estimates.

No one was arrested or provided with a ticket, they say.

Drivers also slowed traffic along the border between Nova Scotia and New Brunswickin protesting around noon.

The New Brunswick RCMP warned of possible delays in the area for drivers.

Highway 104 near the border in Nova Scotia was reduced to one lane in both directions.

Parents were asked to reserve vaccines for their children

The province is urging parents and carers to book vaccination appointments for their children. To date, 54 percent of children aged five to 11 have received the first dose.

“Children are expected to return to private school by the end of the month and will benefit greatly from the vaccination,” said Dr.

“I urge all parents with children in this age group to book an appointment now for their child’s first dose if they have not been vaccinated yet, or for a second dose if appropriate.”
