Sudbury & Districts Public Health is offering some convenient opportunities in Sudbury & Manitoulin districts this week to help you get your COVID-19 vaccine. Do not delay. Take your first and second dose as soon as possible and your third dose if you qualify. A reminder that appointments for the second and third dose should be booked after you have taken your first dose.

Regularly scheduled Public Health Vaccine Clinics for COVID-19

  • Vaccination against COVID-19 is offered by appointment every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at the Carmichael Arena in Greater Sudbury.
  • Vaccination against COVID-19 is offered every Wednesday by appointment at Espanola Golf & Country Club, 309 Golf Club Road, Espanola.

Public Health has staff redeployment to rapidly increase local capacity and vaccination appointments due to increased eligibility. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as the clinic staff work diligently to provide vaccinations. Please be polite, be patient and respect each other; know that you can wait a while before you are vaccinated and that our ability to immunize visits is based on a sufficient supply of vaccines. We are constantly working to increase our capacity. Be polite and stay confident.

With many pharmacies and primary care providers offering COVID-19 vaccination, there are even more options available to get your first or second dose locally, each week. Influenza and COVID-19

As we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, getting the flu vaccine is also important to help save lives and reduce the burden on our health care system. Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines can be safely administered to individuals 12 years of age and older at the same time. Children 5 to 11 years of age should wait at least 14 days before or after receiving another vaccine before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The flu vaccine is available in many places throughout the community, including local pharmacies and health care provider offices.

Vaccine brands offered and supplies

All Public Health clinics offer one of two brands of mRNA vaccines or Moderna Spikevax or the pediatric and adult dose of Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty. Public Health Sudbury & Districts was notified of a delivery delay by the Ministry of Health affecting the delivery of the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty vaccine to our clinics. Individuals 30 years of age and older will be offered the Moderna Spikevax vaccine until an additional supply of the vaccine is obtained. A reminder that for those 30 years and older, the adult dose of Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna Spikevax vaccines can be safely changed. Based on vaccine supplies, the vaccine brand planned for use in each clinic may vary, possibly with limited notice. We encourage you to ask for more information from our immunizers to help you make an informed decision and feel comfortable getting one of the vaccine brands. Suitability for COVID-19 vaccines

First dose suitability

  • Individuals aged five years and older may receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
    • The pediatric dose of Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty (10 micrograms) is approved for children 5 years of age and older. Children 5 to 11 years of age should wait at least 14 days before or after receiving another vaccine before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
    • Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty (30 micrograms) is approved for young people 12 years and older.
    • Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty is preferably recommended for individuals aged 18 to 29 years and the only approved vaccine for young people aged 12 to 17 years.
    • Anyone aged 29 and over can get Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty or Moderna Spikevax. These 2 mRNA vaccines can be safely exchanged.

Second dose suitability

  • Children 5 to 11 years of age who received their first pediatric dose of Pfizer-BioNTech more than 8 weeks ago.
  • Young people 12 years of age and older who received their first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty vaccine more than 56 days (8 weeks) ago.
  • Anyone who has received the first dose of Moderna Spikevax vaccine more than 56 days (8 weeks) ago.
  • People who received AstraZeneca Vaxzevria 56 days ago (at least 8 weeks) and who wish to receive an mRNA vaccine.
  • The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and the Ontario Ministry of Health recommend an optimal interval of 8 weeks (56 days) between the first and second doses of a two-dose vaccine for COVID-19 (Pfizer-BioNTech Cominnaty or Moderna). Spikevax).According to NACI, there is evidence to show that longer intervals between the first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines result in a stronger and more stable immune response and a higher vaccine effectiveness. Public Health will administer the second dose 8 weeks (56 days) after the administration of the first dose, with limited exceptions.

Third dose suitability

The Ontario government recommends a third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine as part of a series of primary vaccines (meaning 3 doses of complete immunity are needed) for the following individuals:

Amplification dose suitability

The Ontario government recommends a boost dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to restore protection that may have been reduced over time to a level for the following individuals:

  • Individuals 18 years of age and older who received the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago (84 days, 12 weeks).
  • Adults of First Nations, Inuit, and Mtis 18 years of age and older, including non-indigenous family members, who received their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago (84 days, 12 weeks).
  • Qualified health care workers 18 years of age and older who received their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago (84 days, 12 weeks) (see details atphsd.ca/COVID-19/vaccine-clinics ).
  • Individuals who received 2 doses of AstraZeneca / COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago (84 days, 12 weeks).
  • Individuals who received 1 dose of the Janssen / Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago (84 days, 12 weeks).
  • Vulnerable adults in collection facilities who received the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago (84 days, 12 weeks) (see details atphsd.ca/COVID-19/vaccine-clinics).
  • Individuals with moderately to severely compromised immunity who are eligible for a primary three-dose series may receive a booster dose (a fourth dose) 6 months (168 days, 24 weeks) after the third dose.

Second and third dose appointments

Anyone who qualifies for a second or third dose can book an appointment once they qualify. Preparing for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment

All vaccination clinics have safety measures against COVID. You should not go to the clinic if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or if you are in isolation due to exposure to COVID-19.

  • Get your health card. If you do not have a health card or your health card has expired, bring another form of photo identification issued by the government, such as a driver’s license, passport, status card or birth certificate.
  • Eat and drink something before you arrive at your appointment to prevent the feeling of fainting or dizziness during vaccination.
  • Do not show up until 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
  • Where possible, please limit the number of support people attending a vaccination clinic to one person.
  • Dress for the weather, you may have to wait in line if you plan to go to a clinic.
  • Wear a top that allows you to have easy access to the top of the arm, e.g. a loose blouse or a blouse.
  • Wear a medical mask that covers your nose, mouth and chin. If you do not have a medical mask, medical masks for children and adults will be available at the entrance of the clinic.
  • If you have symptoms of COVID-19, do not go to the clinic.
