Lipscomb University temporarily moves online courses, suspending all international travel

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) – More and more universities in the United States and Middle Tennessee are closing their campuses due to concerns related to COVID-19. The University of Lipscomb has established a working group and continues to monitor the epidemic.

Spring break started on Friday and is now extended to two weeks. On March 30, classes will go online, but university officials say it won't be for the rest of the semester just yet.

It's a difficult situation all around, it's clear that these students love being on campus, said Kim Chaudoin, spokesperson for the university. However, the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority.

The cleaning protocols have been changed. A hand sanitizer is available on campus and staff are more focused on regular disinfection of all university facilities.

All international travel has been suspended. A group studying abroad in Florence, Italy, was transferred to Vienna, Austria a few weeks ago. They will return home Friday evening. Another group in Costa Rica will return this weekend.

The university offices will remain open, even during the spring break.

The university says it is aware of what neighboring schools have decided to do, but it does it one day at a time and hopes that students will be back in the classrooms before the end of the semester.
