Huawei, ZTE should not be allowed to participate in 5G participation in India: CAIT
NEW DELHI : The Confederation of All Indian Traders (CAIT), which has been campaigning for a boycott of Chinese goods in the country, has called on the government to restrict Chinese companies from participating in 5G participation in India.
“We may want to mention that in some countries both Huawei and ZTE Corporation have been accused of a list of crime laundries, including conspiracy, money laundering, bank fraud and wireless.
“We are confident that our above request will be considered by you and that the necessary decision will be taken to protect not only the security of the country but also the privacy of the people of India through data and as such both Huawei and ZTE Corporation will not be allowed to participate in the 5G network announcement in India, “CAIT said in a letter to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
5G refers to next-generation mobile networks that promise super fast download speeds and the ability to support a critical infrastructure and is therefore more critical in terms of data collection, he said.
India has already banned 59 applications with Chinese links, including the extremely popular TikTok and UC Browser, for involvement in “activities that are prejudicial to India’s sovereignty and integrity, India’s defense, state security and public order.” The ban also comes against the backdrop of the current position along the current line of control in eastern Ladakh with Chinese troops.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission recently identified Chinese firms Huawei and ZTE as “national security threats,” saying the major step was aimed at protecting U.S. communications networks from security risks.
The US claims Huaweis devices could be used by China for espionage. The company has repeatedly denied that it poses any security risk, and insists it be independent of the Beijing government.
