Human remains found near Moose Jaw at least 10 years old, but identity unknown: Sask. RCMP

Saskatchewan RCMP are trying to identify human remains that were recently found in a rural area near Moose Jaw, and that have been there for 10 years or longer, according to experts.

Police say while they don't know whose remains they found last week, investigators are not treating the death as suspicious.

According to police, a forensic anthropologist and pathologist examined the remains and believe they had been in place for at least a decade.

RCMP were called to a rural area northeast of Moose Jaw last Sunday around 2:20 p.m. on a report that human remains had been found, according to a Friday news release.

The release does not provide more specific information about the location.

An investigation into the remains will consider historical missing persons in the area and an update will be provided when more information becomes available, RCMP said.

Moose Jaw RCMP and the Saskatchewan RCMP historic case unit are expected to continue searching the area and say residents may notice an increased police presence.
