Rescue of RPF 290 train passengers stranded on flooded tracks – mumbai news

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued 290 passengers from local trains on the Central Railway (CR) that got stuck in flood waters Wednesday evening. Due to heavy rains, two local trains were stranded near the Masjid Bunder railway station. Zonal railway called NDRF and firefighters to assist in the rescue operation.

According to railway officials, there were close to 17-inch rails on the tracks near the Masjid Bunder railway station on Wednesday evening.

Local train services are stopped when water levels on the tracks reach 8 inches.

The RPF formed teams and began rescue operations to remove passengers from the trains at 5pm and continued until late Wednesday evening.

“The passengers were rescued by the RPF and transferred to shelters opened by the civilian body. One local train was stuck on the railway lines in the direction of Karjat and the other towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). We will reward RPF staff for their bravery, “said Shivaji Sutar, chief public relations officer, CR.

Due to heavy rains, local train services on both the Central and Western Railways were suspended. In CR, services were suspended between CSMT and Thane and between CSMT and Vashi railway stations.

On the Western Railway, services were severely affected by falling trees and water pollution on the tracks near the Marine Lines and Charni Road railway stations. Train services were suspended between Central Mumbai and Churchgate Railway Stations.

Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transportation (BEST) also diverted its buses to more than 76 roads on Wednesday due to 17 flooded roads.
