Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

  • Future Customs Commercial Operations Advisory Committee (COAC) quarterly public meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in Long Beach, CA from 1:00-5:00 PM Pacific Time.
  • Beginning July 1, Laredo CBP will begin enforcing fines for any manifest discrepancies.

Department of Commerce

  • Business announce the latest speaker lineup for the 10th SelectUSA Investment Summit.

Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS)

  • encore announced some significant additional export control restrictions and related actions against Russia to further degrade its ability to continue the war against Ukraine.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

  • DHS Spreads PRC-based seafood, aluminum, and footwear entities on Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Implementation List.

United States Trade Representative (USTR)

  • USTR Ends public engagement to advance supply chain resilience in trade policy initiatives. USTR will now synthesize public comments and release more information within the next few months.

Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

US International Trade Commission (USITC)

  • USITC VOTES to issue anti-dumping duty orders on mattresses from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Burma, Italy, the Philippines, Poland, Slovenia and Taiwan.
  • USITC VOTES to continue investigations on crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

World Trade Organization

  • WTO improvement its platform on commercial opportunities in government procurement, providing users with easier access to relevant information on parties involved in the Government Procurement Agreement 2012 (GPA 2012).

Department of Justice (DD)

  • Two American citizens born in Russia arrested for conspiring to ship $500,000 worth of luxury goods to Russia.

Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)

  • FMC OPEN a 12-day comment period, starting June 6, which will allow the shipping industry to respond to the vessel sharing agreement just presented by Maersk and Hapag Lloyds, known as the Gemini Cooperation Agreement.
    • The agreement will allow Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd to coordinate their shipping operations globally. If the Commission does not act, the Gemini Agreement will enter into force on July 15.
  • FMC GOING an updated version of its website that improves ease of navigation, access to information and ways for the public to identify and seek help from the agency.
  • FMC published an update on Decisions of the Federal Maritime Commission, Second Series (Volume 7).
    • This publication provides a summary of the Commission's Initial and Final Decisions and other selected orders that may be significant or create legal precedent.

US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

  • The FDA and the US Department of Justice announced the creation of a Federal multi-agency task force to combat the illegal distribution and sale of electronic cigarettes.

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)

  • CPSC announced Beta Pilot expansion for electronic submission of consumer product safety certificate data to ACE. Up to 2,000 additional importers can now participate in the pilot.

Congress

  • Senators Cassidy and Cortez-Masto discovered a Trade Facilitation Framework. The framework seeks to modernize trade laws for the 21st century and considers issues such as 1USG, streamlined data collection, export modernization and more.
  • Rep. Blumenauer presented Domestic Bicycle Manufacturing Act which would suspend import duties on bicycle components for ten years.

International News

  • The European Union will inflict surcharge – up to 48% – on electric cars shipped from China starting in July.

Industry news

  • or new reportby the World Shipping Council (WSC) reveals that the number of containers lost at sea was the lowest on record in 2023.
    • Only 221 of the estimated 250 million shipping containers were lost at sea last year, a marked improvement on the previous record low of 661 lost in 2022.
