Essential work on the A465 for 5 weeks
Motorists are advised that the section of the A465 between the A470 junction (Cefn Coed) and the temporary roundabout at Pant Industrial Estate will be fully closed for five weeks this summer, to allow important works to be completed more quickly and with less travel uncertainty. public.
The closure will start at 6am on Monday 29 July and end at 6am on Monday 2 September 2024 and will take place during the summer school holidays when there is less traffic on this section.
The closure will allow several important elements of the A465 work to progress, helping to save time on the construction program and removing the uncertainty in journey times that night and weekend closures can cause.
Feedback from the public indicates that continuous changes, such as overnight and weekend closures, are more disruptive than a fixed closure with a clear detour.
The detour in this case will be about four miles longer, but the journey time should be just under five minutes longer.
The A465 between the Dowlais Top junction and the temporary Pant Industrial Estate roundabout will still be open but to local traffic only.
Discussions took place with partners including the local authority, Prince Charles Hospital and emergency services before the decision was made.
The closure and work is being managed by Future Valleys Construction.
The work being done during the shutdown is as follows:
- Removal of the old bridge in Bryniau
- Construction of a new bridge in Bryniau
- Construction of a new highway embankment for the eastbound carriageway in Gurnos
- Work progressing on the new construction of the Prince Charles Hospital Junction
- Integration of all sections of the road and pedestrian path over the Taf Fechan Viaduct
- Completion of carriageway through Cefn Coed and over Taf Fawr viaduct.
