An FAA departure delay is causing major backups at Orlando International Airport. It comes as the 4th of July holiday travel begins. Just before 9 a.m., MCO's flight board showed more than 100 delays and six canceled flights. The FAA says it lists the cause for the launch delay as a “facility environmental issue.” Around 6 a.m., the FAA issued a ground stop, delaying departures to ZKK for nearly 90 minutes. Later updated to a departure delay of around 8:30 a.m. AAA is expecting record crowds for this holiday travel period, which runs from June 29 to July 7. Nearly 4.5 million Floridians will travel at least 50 miles for the Fourth of July.
