Are you ready for the general election this Thursday 4th July?

West Northamptonshire Council will administer elections for the parliamentary constituencies of Daventry, South Northamptonshire, Northampton North and Northampton South, with voters in each constituency electing a Member of Parliament (MP).

Read on to learn everything you need to know to have your say in this election.

Voting at a polling station

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 4th July so you can vote.

You can find your polling station details on your polling card, which was sent to you in the run-up to the election.

If you misplaced your voting card, don't worry. You don't need it to vote and you can check your polling station details here

Don't forget your photo ID

When you arrive at the polling station, please give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station.

You will also need to show your photo ID to confirm your identity.

You can use an expired photo ID, as long as the image on the ID remains a good likeness of you. STILL must be the original document – photocopy is not accepted

Any of the following are acceptable:

• Passport (Issued in UK, EU/EEA, Commonwealth)
• Driving license (including provisional licenses) (Issued in UK, EU/EEA)
• Blue badge
• Concessional travel cards for some elderly/disabled persons
• Identity card with PASS (Age Proof of Standards Scheme) mark
• Biometric immigration document
• Defense identity card
• Some national identity cards.

Please check the list of acceptable forms of photo ID to make sure you have one that allows you to vote.

Returning your postal vote

If you arranged a postal vote and left it too late to post it again, you can still take your postal vote to your council offices or polling station. You will need to complete a postal vote return form, which will be provided to you when you submit your vote.

If you post your postal vote through a council letterbox, it will be rejected. This is due to the change in the law. For more information visit Electoral Commission website

The new boundaries of electoral districts

These choices will use the new boundaries of electoral districtsas they were revised in 2023 to reflect population changes and attempt to equalize the number of voters in each area.

This means that you can vote in a different constituency from the previous election. The new borders can be found by visiting Boundary Commission for England

Election results

Votes will be counted after polling stations close at 10pm on Thursday 4 July, with results expected to be announced in the early hours of Friday morning.
