Russia's Worldview Will Not Succeed: UK Statement to OSCE

Thank you, Mr. President. Russia continues to violate the universal principles that every member of the OSCE, including Russia, has agreed to; the principles provided for in the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act.

Russia has violated all of these by aggressively invading its neighbor, Ukraine. It cannot escape this reality, which is in complete contradiction to international law. And yet, Russia's narrative suggests that it has a new offering in which such actions would be legitimate. This is her Multipolarity offering.

The Russian projection of multipolarity stands for the rule of force. It promotes lawless and anarchic behavior, tearing up the rules because it doesn't fit. It is there to maintain power for President Putin and a narrow group of Kremlin elites.

The Russian vision of multipolarity has been embraced by hostile states; Iran has provided Russia with unilateral attack drones that cause pain, suffering and death to its neighbor; and North Korea, from which Russia receives ammunition, despite international sanctions.

Russia's view of the world is cynical. It's a world view, thankfully, embraced by very few. It is incumbent upon us in this Forum, and this wider organization, to stand strongly against this worldview and embrace the universal principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

That is why it is so important that we continue to support Ukraine. It is important in itself to support a nation that has been subjected to untold aggression on its own soil. But it matters more broadly, because Russia threatens to undermine the very basis on which nations around the world can coexist peacefully. That is why the UK will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against tyranny and aggression for as long as it takes. Thank you.
