Jones County Public Schools Internationally Recognized – Neuse News
Jones High School HOSA (Healthcare Future Professionals) students recently attended the HOSA International Leadership Conference (ILC) in Houston, Texas. There were over 12,000 HOSA attendees at this conference from around the world, and Jones Senior students had the opportunity to collaborate, network and learn with numerous HOSA members from different states and countries.
The theme of the conference was “Dare to Create” and it was held on June 25-30, 2024. Students worked hard to earn their place to compete in this conference by placing in district, regional and state competitions. Jaiyla Baker, Marshay Brown, Kayia Burton, Bailey Carter, Taziah Cotten, Miranda Ruiz-Esparza, Chelsi Guadarrama, Donquirius Hall, Ana Rodriguez-Hernandez, Corrin Rennie, Monica Smith and Jayla Young were among the students who competed in the ILC. .
Congratulations, Taziah Cotten and Chelsi Guadarrama who earned special recognition and were able to walk across the stage for their performances in the Health Care Issues Exams. These were our first winners to ever represent JSHS on the International Leadership Conference stage in this category.
Congratulations to Bailey Carter and Miranda Ruiz-Esparza for advancing to the second round with their health career performance. Mrs. Murrell, RN is the advisor for the HOSA chapter and a health science teacher at Jones Senior High School. HOSA is a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) within the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department of Jones County Public Schools, which is led by Ms. Barbara Lee.
Mrs. Murrell has worked hard to ensure these students are prepared and equipped to compete at the highest level. Mrs. Murrell stated that seeing students compete and succeed at this conference and just giving them this unique experience is one of the many reasons why she enjoys teaching health education and advising the HOSA Chapter at Jones High School.
