High school guidance counselors from around the world got a feel for East Carolina University during a July 15 visit as part of the Coastal North Carolina Mountains Tour.

The six councilors represented schools in Brazil, China, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and the United Kingdom. While in North Carolina, the group visited Appalachian State University, High Point University, UNC Greensboro, ECU, UNC Wilmington and UNC Charlotte.

Zaya Sanjaa is a counselor at Tolit School in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Sanjaa plans to share her experience at ECU and promote the university with her students and teachers.

I will make several presentations to our students and teachers to encourage them to consider ECU for future studies because there are many opportunities here, said Sanjaa. I am very impressed with the campus and I am sure you will have Mongolia on the map for international students.

The counselors began their morning at ECU by visiting the health sciences campus and learning about the clinical laboratory sciences and Farm 2 Clinic programs. Upon arrival at the main campus, the group heard a presentation from the admissions staff and learned about international admissions and the College of Honor of ECU. They visited the Eakin Student Recreation Center, Greene Residence Hall, The Mall, the Isley Innovation Hub and the Science and Technology Building.

After a meet and greet with ECU Chancellor Philip Rogers, the group had lunch with ECU international students Gigi Otranto from Brazil and Faisal Aboulhassan from Qatar.

The visit was organized by the Office of Global Affairs. Cathy Knudson, director of enrollment and international engagement, coordinated the ECU portion of the trip.

Last year, North Carolina Study put out a call for member institutions to participate in hosting the inaugural NC Institutions Tour. I knew I wanted to participate right away. I offered to co-plan the entire tour and have conceptualized and executed the entire tour from start to finish, including accompanying the band throughout the tour.

According to Knudson, this year was the first time ECU hosted a full tour, but not the first time international advisors visited campus. In 2018, advisors from EducationUSA based in Australia, Honduras and Hungary visited ECU. The difference between that visit and this year is that the EducationUSA counselors are impartial and cannot recommend institutions, whereas the counselors who visited the North Carolina Coast Mountain tour work in schools and can identify students who would be a good fit for ECU and talk about their experience during their campus visit and with the global affairs team.

Knudson believes the opportunity to visit counselors and the ECU experience will help attract more international students.

ECU excels at creating a sense of belonging among our international students, she said. Visiting school counselors on our campus provides them with first-hand experience of our facilities, with our staff, and hearing from our students. They can experience some of what we have to offer and pass those experiences on to their students during their college counseling sessions.

Duncan Lally is head of consultancy at the Florimont Institute in Geneva, Switzerland. Lally was impressed by his visit to Greene Hall, saying the facility was pleasant, clean and well-maintained. He also noticed faculty and student research posters while touring the Science and Technology Building.

It was interesting to see the amount of research going on in the College of Engineering, and I enjoyed seeing the research posters from students and faculty along the corridors, he said.

Lally was also intrigued while touring the Isley Innovation Hub.

I thought the innovation center was interesting. The idea of sitting down, discussing and brainstorming and working with people from different disciplines in the same space is very cool, he said.

ECU's commitment to first-generation students stood out to Sanjaa.

What impressed me the most was the number of students who are students for the first time in their families, about 30%. This is almost the same as our high school, said Sanjaa. We were trying to give equal opportunities to our students who are from a more rural area. Many of our students are from nomadic families who move to the capital Ulaanbaatar and parents are doing everything to provide their children with the best education they can provide.

The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
