As the BJP announced Dutt’s candidacy Thursday evening, Congress and the INLD announced their candidates hours before the nominations for the large number of votes closed on Friday.

The poll became necessary because of the destruction of the MLA of Congress Shri Krishan Hooda in April. Dutt had contested the country unsuccessfully last year when state assembly polls were held.

The check of the nomination documents will take place on October 17. Withdrawal of newspapers will be allowed until October 19.

The polls will be held on November 3 and the counting of votes will take place on November 10.

Candidates submitted their nominations before the Gohana Returns Officer in Sonepat.

Kapoor Singh Narwal, who was an aspirant to the Congressional ticket, has gotten into the fray as an Independent, fueling the race.

Speaking to reporters after presenting the nomination documents, Dutt said voters in the Baroda constituency have decided they will cast their ballots based on development work done in the state.

Dutt, whose candidacy is backed by BJP coalition partner JJP, said his main goal is to serve the people of the Baroda constituency, which falls in the Sonepat district.

He thanked the party leadership for depositing trust in him.

Asked if the caste factor would play a role in the poll, with Congress and INLD announcing candidates from the dominant Jat community, Dutt said, “The BJP does not believe in caste politics. When I got about 38,000 votes during the Assembly elections. “The state last year was not one or two castes. All sections of society supported me.”

“People will vote for BJP and we will win. “My only goal is to serve the people, there are four years left in the term of this government and we will further accelerate the development work,” he said.

Opportunity turned politician, who comes from the village of Bhainswal Kalan in Sonepat district, had joined BJP in 2019 ahead of state assembly polls. He had lost to Krishan Hooda by less than 5,000 votes.

Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan and several senior BJP state leaders accompanied Dutt to the appointment center.

For Baroda, who was considered a stronghold of Congress, Sonepat BJP MP Ramesh Chander Kaushik said, “If it were so, BS Hooda would not have lost the Sonepat LS seat last year. Now, it is not about bastions, but with development and people vote for it. ”

Former Prime Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, State Congress chief Kumari Selja, senior party leaders Kiran Choudhary and Deepender Singh Hooda, who accompanied Induraj Narwal to his appointment, expressed confidence that their party would retain the seat.

Congress has introduced former Sonepat Zila Parishad member from Baroda, with BS Hooda saying the party gave the ticket to a “basic workshop from a farming family”.

Hooda and Selja claimed that the people of Baroda had wanted the candidate to be a local and dedicated party worker.

“This is not just a choice to choose an MLA for a country, but a fight for Baroda’s honor and Haryana’s future. “Congress stands with the common man, the farmers and the workers in this fight against the BJP-JJP government,” Hooda said.

INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala claimed that Baroda’s seat may have been won by the late Krishan Hooda for three consecutive terms in the past, but that this was not “with big margins” and “the people of the constituency have always been with us” .

“We won this seat in 2005 when Congress returned to power (by an overwhelming majority),” said Abhay Chautala, adding that “the BJP candidate will lose his security deposit while Congress will also be rejected by the people.” .

INLD’s Joginder Singh Malik had successfully run in the 2019 assembly elections from Baroda on the party list. PTI
