Edmonton stabbed: paralyzed victim "too afraid to leave home"

A mother who received treatment for breast cancer was one of five injured in a series of random knife attacks, learned a court.
Ayfer Bektas, 45, remained paralyzed after being attacked from behind by Jason Kakaire near his home in Edmonton, north London, in March.
Jason Kakaire, 30, pleaded guilty to stabbing five people in a four-day trip last year.
He will be sentenced to Old Bailey at a later date.
Prosecutors said Kakaire told police he heard voices in his head telling him to kill before the attacks.
Kakaire, who had been detained at Broadmoor Hospital, denied five counts of attempted murder but changed his plea on the first day of his trial.
Rossano Scamardella QC, prosecutor, said that Ms. Bektas was one of four victims left with fatal injuries between March 30 and April 2 last year.
She suffered injuries, including a severed spinal cord.
"Life upside down"
Prosecutors said she was stabbed in the back with such ferocity that the handle slammed and the blade was sunk into it.
He had to be surgically removed.
Bektas said the injuries have "totally changed my life forever".
"I scream in public. I'm too scared to venture outside unless I absolutely have to. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety ", she said in a statement.
"I wake up so many times at night if I can sleep at all. I also don't do well in crowded places.
"My husband could no longer work. My life was turned upside down in an instant. I have no social life."
The stab wounds were all carried out near Kakaire's home in Cameron Close, Edmonton.
He will be sentenced at a later date following psychological reports.
