Washington County residents aged 65 and over can contact Meritus Health to be placed on a waiting list to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The programming has shifted to an online system and could be weeks between the time a person registers and the time the vaccine is available, Meritus announced in a press release issued Wednesday.
Vaccines will only be administered to those who have an appointment and are registered.
Meritus also said it predicts a large number of people will make online appointments.
On January 5, Meritus announced it would open vaccines to county residents aged 65 and over starting Jan. 6.
A telephone line was set up to make appointments starting at noon, but many callers reported receiving a busy signal or disconnecting, or both.
The problem was a high volume of calls, officials said. Disposable vaccine sites were filled and the call center was closed.
“Meritus Health continues to thank the public for its patience as staff work to vaccinate as many people in the community as possible quickly and safely,” Wednesday’s announcement said.
The release also announced two ways Washington County residents 65 and older can begin the process of making an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine.
A person with an active MyChart patient portal account can self-schedule a COVID-19 vaccination appointment as the vaccine supply becomes available. Vaccine schedules will only be available on MyChart as supplies are allocated by the state and additional appointment times open, according to the announcement.
If you have received services from Meritus Health entities, including Meritus Medical Group practices, Meritus Medical Laboratory, Meritus Medical Center, Meritus COVID-19 through the screening center and others, and your email address is on file, you will receive an email with a MyChart activation link. The link will provide access to sign up for a MyChart account.
• Anyone who does not have an account on the MyChart patient portal can have a new form at www.MeritusHealth.com/covidvaccine to complete and add to the waiting list for appointments. Once the form is completed and submitted, the resident will be contacted by phone, in the order in which the form was received, to schedule an appointment.
“Meritus Health is anticipating a large number of people submitting an application to be scheduled for a COVID-19 vaccine, so all stakeholders remember that they will be contacted when additional vaccine supplies are received and be available meetings “, it is said in the announcement. . “This call to schedule an appointment can take up to a few weeks to be received once the form is completed.”
