Convicted of murder, Joshua Palacios sentenced to life imprisonment
Joshua Palacios was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday in connection with the death of Keith Castro in 2019.
On February 5, Palacios was convicted in the Supreme Court of murder as a first-degree crime. During his sentence Wednesday, Judge Vernon Perez said he would qualify for parole after 15 years.
On July 28, 2019, Castro was at Matthew Sablan’s home in Yigo. Court documents stated that Thomas Taitano chose a fight with Castron and attacked him.
When Palacios arrived at Yigo’s house, he aimed a gun at Castro and shot him.
Police found Castro unresponsive at the scene.
Taitano returned on his own. Police found Palacios in a house in Barrigada, where the weapon was found under a mattress.
In August 2019, Palacios was charged with murder, according to court documents.
“You should have known that possession of a deadly weapon in a situation where this heinous crime would occur could occur and, in fact, would bring tremendous consequences,” Perez said.

Perez added a 15-year term to possession and use of a deadly weapon committing a crime.
Witnesses said the men, including Palacios, had a history of crime.
“Based on what I understand as your story, Mr. Palacios your story with the involvement of crime in the half decade before these years I believe 15 years is appropriate,” Perez said.
“I estimate it could be 30 years before you ever have a chance to be released on bail,” Perez said. “I hope the victim’s family finds closure.”
