Five new Covid-19 cases in Singapore – four linked to a new cluster
SINGAPORE (The Straits Times / ANN): Five new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, with a new cluster identified involving a private dinner function at Safra Jurong on February 15.
Dinner at the Joy Garden restaurant in Safra Jurong has been linked to a total of eight confirmed cases, including four of the five new cases announced on Thursday, March 5.
The Raffles Institution student and a staff member from Creative O Preschoolers' Bay nursery school previously identified as confirmed cases are also linked to this sixth group.
According to Safra, the restaurant was closed for cleaning from February 16 to 19, after dinner.
"However, as a precaution, the restaurant as well as all other possible areas which may have been visited by the persons concerned will be cleaned and disinfected again from this evening, in strict compliance with the directives of the Agency. National Environment Agency, "said Safra.
"All the confirmed cases that entered Safra Jurong on February 15, 2020 cleared the mandatory temperature checks performed at the club entrance. They had no fever and had no flu symptoms", added Safra.
Four of the new patients are a 62-year-old man and three women, 62.50 and 52 years of age. All are citizens of Singapore and have no history of recent travel to the affected regions.
The fifth new patient is an imported case, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).
He was on a Turkish Airlines flight that arrived in Singapore on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old French national is a Singapore work permit holder, with no previous travel history in the affected countries and regions, but who was in France, Portugal and Great Britain between February 8 and Tuesday.
He is currently being held in an isolation room at the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
He reported symptoms on Tuesday during his Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Singapore. He went to NCID on Wednesday and was confirmed infected.
Prior to his admission to the hospital, he had visited Gleneagles Hospital for an unrelated matter. He remains in the region of Mount Sophia.
The five new confirmed cases bring the total number of cases to 117.
