ATLANTA – Gov. Brian Kemp says Georgia is open for business as of Thursday.
He has eased COVID-19 restrictions so that restaurant tables are closer, more people can gather together and vulnerable residents no longer have to stay at home. Kemps’ announcement comes despite warnings from public health experts and President Joe Biden that it is too soon for close unmasked contact between foreigners.
Newly registered cases in Georgia have dropped, but only 28 percent of its residents have received a dose of the vaccine.
Experts warn that despite some positive indicators, more infectious variants are spreading and could cause another wave of disease and death.
Kemp signed an executive order last week that will get rid of the ban on large gatherings and housing demands in the country.
There will also be less social distance to places like restaurants, gyms and cinemas.
The order also states that law enforcement cannot force an organization to close if they do not follow safety instructions.
Kemps executive order lasts until the end of April.
Kemp will not support vaccine passports
GUSHT, Ga. – There is still a lot of concern about the government seeking vaccine passports.
So far, this is not happening.
Passports are being discussed, not only for travel but also for daily activities.
Not everyone is on board.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp wrote on Twitter that he would not support a state-mandated vaccine passport.
In California, a congressman is presenting a bill banning passports.
Florida Gov. Ron Desantis is banning businesses in his state from asking them as well.
Henry M. Wu, a physician with Emory University, says the vaccination test is not really new.
Appointments available for University Hospital vaccine clinics
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University Hospital continues to have open places for future vaccination clinics.
- Reservations are required for clinics, which are reserved for residents of Georgia only and include:
- Moderna Clinic, 18 and up: April 20, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Augusta, https://uhcs-covid-moderna-vaccine-clinic-18-plus.eventbrite.com.
- Pfizer Clinics, 16 years and older (parent or guardian must be present for minors): April 13, First Baptist Church, Augusta, https://uhcs-covid-pfizer-georgia-16-and-older.eventbrite.com; and April 29: Tabernacle Baptist Church, Augusta, https://uhcs-pfizer-covid-clinic-16-plus.eventbrite.com.
The hospital system requires vaccination, but also reminds locals to stay vigilant with masks, hand washing and social distancing.
Edgefield County educators have taken shots
EDGEFIELD, SC – A large percentage of Edgefield County School teachers and staff have received their second doses of COVID-19 vaccine, by district.
Upon learning that teachers in South Carolina were eligible for the vaccine, district officials planned a vaccine clinic at Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton High School. The vaccination clinic started on March 10th. The second doses were given on March 31, five days before the start of the spring break, April 2-9.
After the spring break, the school district will return to school five days a week on Monday and will remain in school five days a week due to a large percentage of staff being fully vaccinated. The district will continue to provide full distance learning for students / parents who prefer that opportunity.
Potential staff shortages caused by quarantine should no longer be a barrier preventing students from returning to school five days a week, the district said.
Georgia’s judicial urgency was extended again
ATLANTA – Georgia’s Chief Justice Harold D. Melton on Thursday extended for another month the nationwide judicial emergency he declared for the first time more than a year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Thursday order, which will be in effect until May 8, is almost identical to the previous order he signed last month for the extension of the emergency, but with one major change: This order gives notice that the legal deadlines for it Detained criminal defendants should have their cases heard by a grand jury expected to be reinstated on May 14th.
The readmission of these deadlines is intended to help clear up unchanging criminal cases that have increased throughout the year and to protect defendants’ rights for their cases to move forward.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence.
