Ayodhya Mosque to be named after revolutionary Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah Shah Faizabadi 1857 | Latest India News
The proposed mosque in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, will be named after prominent freedom fighter and revolutionary Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah Faizabadi, the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) announced in a statement on Saturday. The entire project includes a mosque, hospital, museum, research center and community kitchen for the poor and will be dedicated to Faizabadi, who died in the 1857 revolt, the organization said.
Faizabadi was also known as the ‘lighthouse of Independence’ for keeping the Awadh free from British domination for more than two years after the revolt laid the foundation for future independence battles.
The IICF said they devoted the entire Faizabadi project to “even 160 years after the first War of Independence, it still will not get the right part in the annals of Indian history”.
During the 1857 uprising, Faizabadi fought alongside honorary members like Nana Sahib and Khan Bahadur Khan. A year after the uprising, he was assassinated by Powayan king Raja Jagannath Singh.
In a book, ‘History of the Indian Uprising’, British officers George Bruce Malleson and Thomas Seaton repeatedly mentioned Faizabadi and spoke of his bravery and valor.
The Ayodhya Mosque and the hospital project are being built on five hectares of land given to Muslims following the 2019 Supreme Court ruling in the Ayodhya Babri Masjid dispute case. The IICF creed constituted by the Sunni Board of the Waqf had taken a decision not to name the mosque after Emperor Mughal Babur.
Earlier this year, the trust submitted the mosque construction plan to the Ayodhya Development Authority for approval. It is being built in Dhannipur village of Ayodhya.
Under the project, a hospital with 300 super specialty beds, a community kitchen and a research center will be built. The mosque will also have enough space to accommodate about 2,000 people at a time.
