First Coronavirus Patient in Oregon-Lake Oswego School Administrator-released from hospital after 2 months
The first coronavirus-positive person in Oregon-the caretaker of a school from Hillsboro-recovered enough to leave the hospital with the obvious help of medication and the promise of sending out a mariachi band.
Hector Calderon, 46, who works at Forest Hills Elementary School in Lake Oswego, is expected to continue his recovery there on Monday from Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro to a skilled nursing facility.
Calderon was the second patient in the country known to have been infected with the virus in the area. Calderon lives in Hillsboro and tested positive on 28 February.

Calderone was also one of the first patients to be treated with rendecibir, an antiviral drug being tested for treatment of the disease, hospital officials said, but no other details were given.
He was wearing a ventilator while he was in the hospital.

“ I need oxygen when I do my best, ” said Dr. Sala Rahimtora, a Kaiser doctor who helped to treat calderon. “Unknown.”
Kaiser announced his release the day after Calderon was released.
Kaiser said ICU nurse Chad Cave promised a parade with the Mariachi band and motivated Calderon during the recovery. On Monday, as Calderon was released from the hospital, a Mariachi band performed outside while staff lined up in the hallway. The hospital said that members of his church also wanted to cheer him up.
During the treatment, Calderon asked about Forest Hills students and staff, and this week sent a message to the school community through the hospital.
“I would like to inform you that I am very lonely without you. Thank you for supporting me and my family. If you have the blessing of God, I will see you soon.”
