Top British Columbia Doctor Visits Okanagan to Talk to Local Health Authorities
BC’s top doctor Kelowna today.
Dr. Bonnie Henry takes a tour of various health areas in the state to promote vaccination and listen to potential problems that each area may be experiencing.
“It was an opportunity to meet several teams,” said Henry, British Columbia’s State Health Officer.
“And it also raises awareness about vaccination.”
British Columbia health officials discourage “brand shopping” and say Moderna and Pfizer are “the same vaccine.”
When asked about a rally against the blockade in Kelowna, Henry said it was an idealism going in the wrong direction.
“This was seen in some pockets in the state. It’s a small number of people and we know it. Many mistakes that (protesters) deliberately mislead people. There is some information and disinformation, “Henry said.
“I’m worried, but again, it’s a small number of people.”
And it has proven difficult to convince the rest of the population to be vaccinated.
“I don’t think it’s too late. There are many vaccines out there right now, but we know there are many reasons. To find out why people aren’t vaccinated, we’re in the community. “I’ve been reaching out,” Henry told Global News Thursday.
“Often it’s convenient, inaccessible, and difficult to get to a vaccine clinic. I’m told that Interior Health is doing a lot of work to get vaccines out into the world at mobile clinics and pop-up clinics. We know. People will have more opportunities to access the vaccine. “
Okanagan has always been a hotspot for tourists, with the Interior Health area number one in the state’s new daily case on Wednesday.
Henry said the virus hasn’t disappeared, so be careful when traveling.
“I want people who visit here to do the same things as people who live here because it’s a way we protect each other,” Henry said.
“If possible, I would like you to get vaccinated before you come.”
