US researchers testing wearable technology to help detect coronavirus symptoms-National
A group of researchers in the United States have developed a wearable device that says it can detect novel-related symptoms Coronavirus.

John Rogers, a biomedical engineering professor at Northwestern University who led the development of technology, says he measures respiratory activity and cough along with temperature and heart rate.
“The device basically measures movement—a sign of subtle vibrations of the underlying process, a bodily process that appears on the surface of the skin. Rogers told Kelly Cutlara on Global News Radio 640 Toronto.
“It captures such information that makes it possible to classify coughs.”
The device was developed at the Engineering Laboratory in Northwestern and uses a custom algorithm generated by scientists at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, a rehabilitation hospital in Chicago.
Originally developed to monitor swallowing and speech in stroke survivors, the gadget was modified to capture possible COVID-related symptoms.

This device is still . It is currently used by about 25 people, including frontline health care workers and some patients, as part of their research.
The devices are manufactured in the Northwestern lab and can produce up to about 100 devices per week. Rogers said he would listen to feedback from the medical community and potentially pursue manufacturing partnerships if he was interested in making the device more widely producible.
Rogers said the device could be useful in a number of different situations-for example, monitoring people working in high-risk situations such as healthcare professionals.
“SAt times, I think individuals may become more conscious and coughing may start to occur more frequently or to develop symptoms, but early signs of fever and abnormal respiratory activity are present. ” He said.

Another application is to track the progress of symptoms, including after a coronavirus patient returns home from a hospital.
The device could also help scientifically understand how a new disease progresses, Rogers said.
The novel coronavirus pandemic, which claimed an estimated 267,000 lives, prompted large-scale research worldwide.
In addition to research on testing, vaccines and antibodies, experts have also focused on developing technologies in the fight against viruses.
The contact tracking app is designed to notify people who may have been in contact with people diagnosed with COVID-19, but this concept prompts questions about privacy.
Rokid, a Chinese-based startup, has developed eyeglasses to help screen for symptoms. Glasses with infrared sensors and cameras allow the wearer to “see” the body temperature of people.
