Increasing cases of COVID-19 in New York as vaccination rates rise slowly
The State Department says a higher percentage of cases are associated with more infectious mutations and encourages more people to be vaccinated.
Albany, NY — As vaccination rates rise slowly, cases of COVID-19 are increasing in New York.
This is based on the latest state data released Saturday afternoon by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office.
Approximately 525 people were COVID-19 positive daily in New York for seven days until Friday. This is a 42% increase from 369 last week.
The New York State Department of Health states that higher cases are associated with more contagious mutations and encourages more people to be vaccinated.
In a statement, Governor Cuomo said, “New Yorkers have fought the COVID-19 pandemic with very strict discipline and indomitable spirit, but remember that vaccination is a way to permanently defeat this beast. That is absolutely important. “
“I advise New Yorkers who haven’t taken shots to do so immediately. The faster we vaccinate the population, the more COVID will be in the past.”
