Delta Variant for Spikes in Unvaccinated COVID-19 Cases in New Jersey – CBS Philadelphia
Camden, NJ (CBS) — There are concerns about COVID-19 cases nationwide and in New Jersey. The state on Thursday reported 441 newly identified cases of coronavirus. This is the highest number since late May.
The city of Camden has a high infection rate due to the large number of unvaccinated people. It seems to be seen around the state.

“Since day one, the city of Camden has been our hotspot,” said Camden County Commissioner Jonathan Young.
Camden County officials say the increase in COVID cases is primarily caused by delta mutations among unvaccinated people.
“People are still sick with COVID-19, and unfortunately people are still dying,” Young said.
It’s part of the national trend. New cases have increased by double digits in almost every state. There is an increase of over 50% in 32 states, including New Jersey.
“We note that the southern part of the state is 2.5%,” said Dr. Judy Persicily, New Jersey Health Commissioner.
State health commissioners emphasized rising positive rates in South Jersey. This isn’t as bad as the heyday of a pandemic.
“The overall trajectory of the COVID virus is diminishing,” said Dr. Mark Condorsi of Jefferson Health, NJ.
However, the 7-day average for New Jersey is currently 331 new daily cases. This is a 77% increase from a month ago.
“The concern is that people see it in those settings that may be communal living like unvaccinated colleges and other areas,” said Carryelle Lasher of Camden Health.
In addition to young people spreading the virus at beach parties and elsewhere, officials also say there are disparities in vaccination. There are many people in Haddonfield who are fully protected compared to Camden, which is cheaper.
“I’m talking to people who for some reason don’t trust it yet,” Young said.
