Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot? The Lee High Valley Health Network is helping to find the answer.
Lee High Valley Health Network Announced that they are participating in a study to determine the need for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.
LVHN is part of Pfizer’s clinical trials, confirming the need for a third vaccination as the viral variants continue to spread.
The Health Network has previously participated in the first Pfizer vaccine clinical trial, and participation in the booster trial is limited to those who received the COVID-19 vaccine in the first trial.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Institutes of Health are all involved in research to determine if boosters are needed.

Network officials have emphasized that people should be vaccinated first. The vaccine is approved for people over the age of 12.
“Currently, 99% of COVID cases occur in unvaccinated cases,” said Joseph Yozviak, DO, Principal LVHN Researcher in the COVID-19 Vaccine Clinical Trial. “The most important thing you can do right now is to make sure you’re fully vaccinated with both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.”
Officials said the number of COVID-19 patients at LVHN Hospital is slowly increasing due to the self-satisfaction of unvaccinated people. Hospitalized COVID patients are primarily unvaccinated.
Dr. Alex Benjamin, Chief Infection Control and Prevention Officer at LVHN, said: “The emergence of more contagious delta variants here in the United States, including Pennsylvania, is also a concern and another reason for immunization.”
