Outbreak reported at Cargill plant resulting in 142 more COVID-19 deaths in Quebec

Quebec reported that COVID-19 had the second highest number of deaths per day on Sunday as 142 people were infected with the virus.
There were 735 new cases, for a total of 37,721.
The number of people both in hospital and on intensive care was slightly reduced.
Most of the state’s cases have been found in the Montreal area, with 19,197 cases occurring, but the surrounding Laval and Montereggie areas each have more than 4,000.
François Legoux last week announced that elementary schools, nurseries and retail stores with outdoor entrances in Montreal will reopen on May 25 and postpone the date again.
Schools and daycare outside the Montreal area will open as scheduled on Monday with optional physical distance measurements.
Many of the outbreaks have occurred in long-term care facilities, including one home in Laval, which counts over 200 cases and 84 deaths as of Sunday.
Another outbreak forced the shutdown of a meat processing plant near Montreal after 64 employees tested positive.

According to Cargill, 64 workers make up 13% of the factory’s workforce. According to the company, three employees were recovering, and once the work was resumed, more were expected to be ready to return to work.
