Delta mutant of COVID-19 identified in Allegan County
(WXMI) — A delta variant of COVID-19 has been identified in three individuals in Allegan County.
According to the Allegan County Health Department, all three are fully vaccinated and are over 60 years old. According to the Department of Health, one person recently traveled out of state.
Only a small number of COVID-19-positive test samples are sent for gene sequencing to identify mutant strains, so the Ministry of Health may have more unidentified cases of delta mutations in the county. It says it is expensive.
Vaccination is more important than ever, “said medical director Richard Tuker. “The COVID-19 vaccine is effective against mutants and reduces the risk of serious illness that can lead to hospitalization and death.”
