A 19-year-old man in Rhode Island has found a way to recycle used smartphones and tablets into the hands of virus-affected patients to communicate with friends and family. And that idea started.

This project was born out of a wish for Saner’s support. The resident of Providence considered sewing a protective mask, but his parents were both doctors in the emergency room, so he urged him to do more.

So he and a friend asked for donations of used smartphones and tablets to give to those patients.

What started out as a simple Facebook appeal has evolved into covidconnectors.org, a website where you can donate “gentle used” devices with video capabilities. The website makes donations easy and also provides step-by-step instructions.

Amazon donated more than 500 devices and enhanced them.

Cell phones and tablets are used everywhere, from birthday celebrations to meeting new grandchildren to the final farewell greeting, Snar said.
