Mom’s warning to other parents after son removes eyeball
The mother revealed potentially life-saving advice to other parents after the infant’s eye cancer forced him to leave.
From Newcastle, New South Wales, Kara Sefo recently shared two identical photos of his son Rocky six weeks ago. One made a big difference in the camera settings, one with the flash on and the other taken without the flash.
An image of a 2-year-old with the camera flash turned on revealed a reflective spot in the left eye, but in other photographs both eyes looked the same.
The reflective spots inside the Rocky eye are the result of retinoblastoma, a rare form of cancer that rapidly develops from immature cells of the retina.

Ms. Cefo shared a Facebook page dedicated to the Rocky Journey known to the family about the “easy test.”
“If I had a Rocky ophthalmologist when I first noticed something, he’s still convinced that his left eye is the vision,” she wrote in a post on Tuesday’s page. ..
She explained how he first noticed “strange” in his eyes when he was four and a half months old, but didn’t reach a doctor until about two months later.
“Unfortunately, our GP wasn’t worried at all, so appointments with an eye doctor weren’t in a hurry and Rocky was seen a month later,” she wrote.

“With that promise, the team was told to wait in Westmead (a hospital) to see Rocky the next morning.”
Starting the next week, Rocky had to endure 6 months of chemotherapy to treat cancer in both eyes.
“About two years later, we’re moving forward and Rocky has just removed his left eye,” she wrote.
The two photos were taken just before he was taken away, hoping Ms. Cefo will serve as an important warning to other parents.
