This is the Minnesota COVID-19 update on Monday, August 9th.
Monday’s COVID-19 update from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) includes 1,120 new cases and 4 newly reported deaths. ..
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has killed 7,698 people. Of all deaths, 58.8% (4,525) were caregivers.
As of August 5, the state reported that 3,199,358 people (an increase of about 8,000 from Friday) had received at least one COVID-19 vaccine and 3,018,637 had completed the vaccine series. Percentage of Minnesota’s population who made at least one shot, based on age group:
- 12-15: 44%
- 16-17: 54%
- 18-49: 59%
- 50-64: 73%
- 65 years and over: 91%
- Total population: 58%
54.3% of Minnesota’s total population, including children under the age of 12 who are not vaccinated, have completed the vaccine series. Excluding children under the age of 12, it jumps to 64.2%. By August 6, the number of COVID-19 patients admitted to Minnesota was 299 (up from 267 reported on Friday).
Of the hospitalized patients, 87 received intensive care and 212 received non-ICU treatment.
Test and positive rate.
The 1,120 positive results in the Friday update came from 24,784 completed tests, creating a test positive rate of 4.51%.
According to Johns Hopkins UniversityThe Minnesota test positive rate for the past 7 days was 5.12%, rising as the delta variant spread and recently falling below 1%.
The World Health Organization recommends that a positive rate of less than 5% (total positives divided by the total number of completed tests) is required for at least two weeks for the economy to resume safely. The 5% threshold is based on the total positive divided by the total test.
