(KWTX)-Central Texas authorities are stepping up testing again as cases of COVID-19 continue to proliferate here and around the state.
More than 570 additional confirmed viral cases were reported on Wednesday in 16 central Texas counties monitored by KWTX, with approximately 6,500 viral cases active, 370 more than on Tuesday.
The drive-through test site opened in McLennan County on Thursday, with an additional 204 virus reports on Wednesday. There are at least 1,256 COVID-19 activity cases in the county, 148 patients are hospitalized, and 26 are on ventilator. All ICU beds are used.
A temporary drive-through test and vaccine site will open in Killeen on Thursday.
Bell County reported another 160 cases of the virus on Wednesday. According to local data, there were at least 1,790 incidents on Wednesday. This does not include Fort Hood personnel who live in the post. State data showed 2,579 active cases.
Waco-McLennan County Test

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that anyone who is not fully vaccinated and who is exposed to a person who has symptoms of the virus or who has a case of the virus should be tested.
Killeen City Test

New cases, hospitalizations and deaths all continue to rise
On Wednesday, the Texas Department of Health reported more than 20,000 new confirmed cases of the virus and 174 additional deaths.
More than 229,402 cases were active on Wednesday, 10,500 more than on Tuesday, and at least 12,402 patients diagnosed with the virus were hospitalized in the state.
In Trauma Service Area L, which includes the counties of Bell, Coriel, Hamilton, Lampasas, Miram, and Mills, 244 patients diagnosed with the virus were hospitalized on Wednesday, accounting for 22% of the available beds and all hospitalized.
