Maine reported 182 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, while cases in Cumberland County are declining.

Based on thresholds set by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Cumberland County, the state’s most populous and COVID-19 vaccinated county, was “substantially” from “substantial” risk counties to “medium” on Thursday. Of the 852 hospitalized for availability of the vaccine, 35, or about 4 percent, are fully vaccinated. Of the 237 deaths at the time, 14 were fully vaccinated, or nearly 6%, according to state health officials, each contributing to other health conditions.

There is also the latest surge, as many Maine schools are expected to reopen within two weeks. This can be a daunting task, as vaccination rates for ages 12-19 are only about 51% and students under the age of 12 are not vaccinated.
